BEAUTY AND THE VILLAS
Celebrated by poets, painted by artists and chosen by famous people for their residence, the villas on Lake Como are surrounded by beautiful gardens with changing colours of trees and flowers throughout the year. Nowadays, most of these properties are hotels, conference centres or homes to the VIP's. Strolling around their gardens, you will see botanic jewels such as the orchid of Villa Vigoni, the camellias of Villa Carlotta, the centennial elm tree ("Olmo" in Italian, from which the villa was named after) and many other rare species protected by the lake's microclimate.
To quote but a few on Lake Como...
- Villa Olmo (Como)
- Villa Melzi (Bellagio)
- Villa Carlotta (Tremezzo)
- Villa Balbianello (Lenno)
- Villa Mylius Vigoni (Menaggio)
- Villa Cipressi, Villa Monastero (Varenna)
YOUR TIME TRAVEL
Como is a lively city from a cultural point of view. Great men, such as Plinius the Old and Alessandro Volta lived here and great writers as Alesssandro Manzoni and Stendhal mentioned it in their masterpieces.
History and tradition live in the many monuments and museums scattered across Como, but culture still pulses nowadays: Villa Olmo hosts art exhibitions with paintings coming from the most famous world galleries, whilst Villa Erba is the theatre for plays, concerts and ground for trade fairs and congresses. The local theatre, the Sociale, features one of the richest seasons of opera, concerts, ballets and plays.
All this is close to the Palace Hotel, so you just have to choose what you like the most and enjoy it!
